WVU Ride Free

Welcome to the Summary Page for Bus Service to West Virginia University provided through the Mountain Line Transit Authority

Welcome to Morgantown and Monongalia County. Whether you are a new student or a returning student, there are some new features and services you might want to check out for the school year. The Valley View Route runs every 15 minutes, the Blue & Gold runs on a 20 minute frequency, Cassville provides trips to the University Town Center Mall. We've also been working on a few tools to help you with your trip planning and your trip. Check out our Trip Assistance feature on our website that lets you plan your trip needs ahead of time using Google Transit. Also learn about our Twitter Live Feed, this will allow you to know where exactly your bus is at all times. Check out the links, save time and money by avoiding traffic, parking fees and fines, and leave the driving to us!

Bus Service to WVU Faculty, Staff and Students has been prepaid. You can ride any local Mountain Line bus by swiping your valid WVU I.D. when boarding the bus. The Grey Line traveling to Pittsburgh twice daily is the exception to this rule.

There are several schedules which serve WVU facilities, dormatories and connect to local areas of interest such as shoping malls. The schedule provided below is offered as a quick-start guide only. Or you can get a full schedule of each route here. Printed schedules are available at several locations on campus including the Information Desk at the Mountainlair, Towers, Lincoln, The Book Exchange, Augusta Apartments, Chateau Royale, Valley View, City Finance Office, International Student Office, E. Moore Hall, Eisland Hall, Field Crest, Health Right, Library, Lincoln Hall, Mountain Peoples Coop, Mountaineer Station, Pierpont Apartments, Ruby Hospital, Stansberry Hall Room 336, Stewart Hall, Student Health WVU, Summit Hall, Suncrest Village, Timberline Apartments, WVU Admission and Records, and the Honors Dorm.

Hours of Operation

Mountain Line operates from 6:00 a.m. through Midnight, Monday through Saturday. Service hours are extended on the West Run and Campus P.M. Routes until 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday while classes are in session during the Fall and Spring Semesters. Additional, limited service is available on Sunday on the Blue & Gold Connector.

Mountain Line travels more than 900,000 miles per year with more than 1,100 hours of service per week. There are a number of transfers and connections available to meet your needs. If you cannot determine the best route to meet your needs, call 291-RIDE (7433) and we will help you customize your trip.

Catching the Bus

Unlike some of our big-city brothers, Mountain Line offers customer-friendly service to meet YOUR needs. Buses will stop for you anywhere along the designated route. All you need to do is wait in a safe location and wave to the driver as the bus approaches. No need to hike to a bus stop to catch the bus. The exceptions to this are our West Run and Blue & Gold Routes which have now been made Express Routes in order to keep the bus on time. With a 20 minute frequency that is important on those two routes.

Mobility and Other Impairments

All Mountain Line vehicles are accessible for persons with mobility impairments. Additionally, Mountain Line will deviate off of our regular route to pick you up for $0.50 cents. Deviations must be pre-arranged by calling 304-291-7433.
